Another foot?

Okay, I'm kind of done with all this snow. Much as I like the stuff, very pretty as it may be, it's getting old. No one needs to think they moved to Alaska here...

Good news? Okay, I survived a very trying trip to the grocery. And got into my fiction class. Had believed they'd dropped me from the waitlist, and then the teacher sent me the override permission number.

Another win? Managed to locate the mystery cookie I fell in love with last semester. Apparently it's an American brand...

Star Crunch is basically puffed rice, caramel and chocolate, mm. All kinds of delicious.

Lacking

For the lack of actual blog material or the energy to post life events, I'll throw up a short, short, short warmup-to-the-semester story I wrote for my fiction class. It was supposed to be a strong memory, pumped out in 6 sentences or less.

There you go, Exercise 1: Memory.

The freshness of the grass is crushed out beneath my weight as I lay back, twitching the skirt of my school jumper over my knees. The soccer field of the little Puritan school I attend has never been used for an actual game, not to my knowledge. The grass is still dewy, the water not yet burned off from the cool Spring sun, and the corn will only just be beginning to sprout. Swarms of ladybugs have overtaken the fields, and my school, so distinctly planted in the center of this agricultural mess, cannot stand against our yearly invader. There is no air conditioning in this school, and tiny spots of color crawl under the screens of the windows. Now that the weather has warmed, the teachers send us out into the buzzing air every recess, as if hoping they may have fewer children to mold at the end of the half hour.

First Two Days of a New Semester

I have to push through The Republic today, and review Meno, both of which were written by Plato.

Pity there's a How It's Made marathon on Science Channel today. It throws me, these three day weekends.

We're getting quite a bit of snow right now, at least three inches are already on the ground. I'm quite glad Shalini and I hit up H Mart yesterday and got foodthings, since there is no way I'm trekking across campus in my sneakers for food. At least I'll have time enough to do my homework before Monday comes around. The semester just began, but rough calculations have landed me with at least 16 papers/essays/stories to write and over 2000 pages of collected reading, a good lot of it exceedingly difficult philosophy texts.

It's gonna be a fun semester. At least I have only one exam to really worry about, it seems. The rest are in-class tests or papers. That's a win, don't you think?

I tried red bean paste again, and sadly, I still don't like it. Ah well.

Yes, I'm a Grouch. Deal.

I am finished with constantly reminding others that I will not be willing to converse the very moment I drag myself from my bed, or likely the time after that until I have sipped my tea and sufficiently woken up. Nor will I remind others that politically-driven conversation first thing in the morning is something I consider to be the foulest of faux pas, even worse than sneezing over the communal soup tureen.

No, I am finished with that. It's your own fault now if you get your head ripped off. After all, you are, in my opinion, going out of your way to start my morning off to a horrific beginning, and that is, as they say, the first most important moments which can set the mood for the rest of the day.

You're an adult now. Certainly even you ought to be able to remember something this simple...And if you can't? Well, I'm certainly not going to be holding your hand anymore.

Finally picked a book. Notes from the Underground, by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Rather enjoying it too.

Hotpot and LitMag

Yesterday I had class, ran errands, picked up a few hairclips to replace the ones that had broken over the past few months, and found some real deals on some things I've been waiting for months go to on half-price. And that evening I went to Lizzy's to have hotpot (it was cheaper than going out to eat, and a great deal tastier). I ate so much I had a stomachache when I got home, haha. You put fishcakes in something, I'm probably going to eat it. I also talked to Lizzy's sister, Erika, who is also involved in the headship of her church if they were dong anything about the relief efforts for Haiti, and if I could donate something through them. She said she'd get back to me soon as she knew.

Mm, and David got a black eye at work today. Apparently he walked into something. June was fretting all evening over it. I just pointed and laughed (after all, he did pretty much the same when I got whacked in the face with a shinai, which also resulted in a very pretty black eye).

Today, though I woke up to some really horrific dreams (I have nightmares vivid enough to write stories about), and had no clean pants to wear, the email I got from the Editor in chief from UMBC's Literary Magazine congratulating me on the acceptance of one or more of my submissions. Though I'm presently working an internship for the magazine, I hadn't actually expected to have any of my submissions accepted, so this was a pleasant little surprise. It certainly made up for how I woke up.

Oh, and the laundry's drying. ^^ I better get a to-do list together.

...After I tackle the dog.

It's time for a haircut.

More later.

Slippery Slope

You start with a little black eyeliner and a pair of gray jeans and next you know you're decked out in chains and black and look a bit like walking death. Small children cry at your approach and ask for you to give Grandpa back and their parents shuffle aside, aghast. Haha.

Also, today, there was skating class. After that, a grilled cheese sandwich with cheddar, mozzarella and catsup, and old comfort food. Then I grabbed some couch and spent the rest of the day in front of the TV. Eech. So lazy.

Tomorrow, going to Shalini's.

Saturday? I got invited to a theme party. Exciting.

~

Okay, I've been super lazy the past couple weeks. Usually at school I'm forced to at least do a little walking around between the dorm and classes, and the terrain is sometimes hilly, and I walk extremely fast everywhere (these days because it's so cold and I don't seem to retain heat). Since being home over break, I haven't done anything but sit on my tush. Errands aren't any kind of exercise at all, even though I park as far away from the store as possible.

Since starting Ice Skating, I'm finally feeling a little bit guilty about sitting around. I'm totally out of shape again! Ahh! And worse, I've gained a little weight, even though I haven't changed my eating habits at all. So, without changing anything and without drastic measures, I'm going to start exercising a little more when I'm not working on a project. I can run in place while watching TV, which is a workout by itself. I can also do a few yoga poses and pushups while listening to music or the Daily Show. Jumping jacks and lifting light weights while I watch movies seems easy enough.

^^ It's not a resolution, more like 'I wanna feel good about myself, right now! Work, work, work!'

Annnd...I know I won't be able to get to the rink twice a week (though I sincerely wish I could), I'm seriously considering skates of my own. Because I'm really, really liking the exercise, and it'll be a better reprieve to my senses from a summer's heat than the swimming pool (and I won't have to wear a ridiculous bathing suit either! Woot!)

...I'm so boring. Bwahaha.
